"There are consequences to breaking the heart of a murdering bastard. You experienced some of them." ~ FAVOURITE VILLAINS IN TARANTINO FILMS

"One may smile, and smile, and be a villain." Shakespeare wrote this, Quentin Tarantino follows this...well in most cases. His villains are menacing- agreed, but have humourous quality about them. And I think everyone knows about my soft spot for baddies.
These are my favourite villains from QT films:

Honourable mentions- The Führer himself, the Crazy 88, Ordell.

10) Drexl Spivey (played by Gary Oldman)- Oldman plays a pimp who thinks that he's a black man, who kills, curses and steals. Just the look, and the Oldman owning the character- genius.

9) The Media, Public, almost everyone in Natural Born Killers- This film shows how people are addicted to scandal, and how the media uses everything to its own advantage, without realising the repercussions.

8) Virgil (played by James Gandolfini)- He comes, starts throwing delicate little Patricia Arquette around and starts telling her about how it feels to kill a person.

7) Stuntman Mike (played by Kurt Russel)- A stuntman who targets pretty girls and kills them with his death-proof car. He is the quintessential serial killer- charming, interesting, kinda sexy, "foolproof" and remorse-less. His modus operandi is pretty unique too, I might add.

6) Jules Winnfield (played by Samuel L. Jackson)- The role that would typecast Jackson forever. But it still is one helluva role! No one can preach like this man...and no one can kill like that after. He's plain iconic.

5) Zed (played by Peter Greene)- Oh he was one twisted character! I remember watching this for the first time and being slightly shocked at what was going on, because it hadn't registered immediately. Caution: Keep him out of your pants.

4) Elle Driver (played by Daryl Hannah)- I've always thought of O-Ren as a greater opponent for the Bride, but she has a backstory to support her character so she ain't all bad. But Elle is nasty, and so freaking hot! With her, it's all personal- love for Bill, envy and respect for the Bride, hatred towards Pai Mei and disgust for Budd. She is a very striking villainess, and the one eye is pure brilliance.

3) Mr. Blonde/ Vic Vega (played by Michael Madsen)- He's just glorious. First they show him as a faithful friend and employee, but then as a blood-thirsty, ear-cutting lunatic. I was genuinely afraid of him, but at the same time I found Madsen very sexy.

2) Bill (played by David Carradine)- The head or Snake Charmer of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. His love for the Bride makes him take drastic steps and while it is painful for him, he does massacre a lot of people. The whole premise of both the Kill Bill's is the Bride's revenge from him- without him, there is nothing.

1) Col. Hans Landa (played by Christoph Waltz)- Speaking of glorious, sexy, unique, smiling villains...how amazing is this guy?! The very first time I saw the film I said, "This guy will sooooo win the Oscar!" And for once the AMPAs did not disappoint. But then again, he was so convincing as the diabolical, fair-weathered Jew Hunter.  His stares bore a hole through you, and his bingos make one howl with laughter; how could they help it? He is simply superb.

  1. I just re-watched Inglourious Basterds a couple nights ago. Colonel Landa is indeed worthy of the #1 spot, what an incredible performance by Christoph Waltz. Great list Nikhat!

  2. An excellent idea for a list, however...

Whoa whoa whoa....hold on a second. Jules Winfield...a villain?!? Please explain yourself. Jules is one of the main protagonists!

Also, Gandolfini was great, but where in da heck is Chris Walken (from True Romance)? He'd be near the top of my list.

Also, Drexl would have been placed a bit higher. What can I say, I love the characters in TR.

  3. @ Castor- Thank you...and he is great!

@Dylan- You know, to be considered a villain by me is nothing short of the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a character...besides I've been trying to put Jules in every list possible.
Chris Walken made me laugh...but he's definitely not in my top 10. And I guess it'll take more time for me to get completely obsessed with True Romance...but it's getting there.

  4. Again, badass list! Especially your top five. They're all complete and utter BAMFS. Now I have to watch True Romance again, just for the Gary Oldman love. And while I do think Jules is tricky to call a villain there aren't really...any villains in Pulp Fiction. Well, except Zed, but. They're all varying shades of grey, so I think it's easy enough to say he's both the protagonist and the villain rolled into one.
