Thoughts

1) Yes so, as expected, I am incapable of coming up with something special for next month. For your information, next month, August 2012, is the month when my teens end FOREVER! Technically that is. I have decided to be a teenager till I'm 25. But still, for all legal reasons, this is the end people. And I wanted to celebrate/ mourn/ whatever about it on this blog. But my brains fail me, yet again. Dare I ask it... Er, help?

2) The Hunger Games news- Philip Seymour Hoffman will be starring as Plutarch Heavensbee in Catching Fire, so nicely done casting people. But then, they have decided to divide the last book, Mockingjay, into two movies. Ugh Hollywood, why? This is the latest in the line of desperate attempts by Hollywood to eke out every last penny from the viewers. I am sorry but when Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows was split into two films, it was for story purposes more than anything. But unfortunately, it has given birth to this ugly new trend. Gah.

3) Important links- Lesya from Eternity of Dream has two blogathons coming up: New York in Genres on August 2nd and Speechless Blogathon on August 16-18. Then there is Alex Withrow's short film Earrings, whose trailer is out and the full short can be seen on July 28th.

4) The whole blogosphere is abuzz with the the news of Michael Fassbender starring in and co-producing the Assassin's Creed movie adaptation. I am like the least video game-y person in the world, but even I know this game. I think he will be brilliant for such a role, and he can bring his Fassy spin onto it and make it a very memorable character. I am still waiting for him to become the next James Bond though.

5) Speaking of, Ben Whishaw will be playing a very very very young Q in Skyfall. I love the way he looks. Makes me think of a very meme-esque tagline, that is "Nerding- he's doing it correctly". I think in taglines by the way. All the people calling him Peter Park-y, stop.

6) Hey, is it me or is The Amazing Spider-Man as divisive as The Tree of Life last year? Maybe I think so because this time I am on the side of the haters. Still, I almost nearly forgive this film for bringing the perfection that is Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield together. Just look at this video! I want to marry both of them as a couple.

7) Trailers- The Comic Con teaser to Oz, the Great and Powerful just released. I think it looks awesome, albeit a little too reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. Also I like James Franco, so I am fine with him, but I am most excited to see what Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis bring to the Technicolor table. The other trailers are all Bollywood for a change- the first is of Anurag Basu's Barfi!, which has been inspired by Amélie. It does look and sound brilliant, save that fart joke at the end (why?) and I actually quite like Ranbir Kapoor as an actor. Oh see this excellent teaser of English Vinglish, which shows Sri Devi trying to read the film certificate in English, since the film revolves around her learning the language. I love clever trailers, and this is definitely one of them. The last trailer is of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Pari, which starts at the 0:55 part, and everything before that is the super-long and showy Sanjay Leela Bhansali films logo. Okay it looks dumb, I agree. But this film has Boman Irani, who I adore, and is quite progressive in the sense that it isn't about forty year-old macho men falling in love with twenty year-old slutty girls in expensive foreign locations, which is the norm now.

8) Finally, I think my favourite meme of all time is the Leo Strut one. This is Leo Strut: The History Edition-

One does not simply walk into history...

Toodles.

Thoughts

Yes I am a couple of days late. Had to watch this huge adaptation which everyone loves etcetera etcetera.

1) Speaking of which, you know how many people are not going to watch The Hunger Games this weekend due to the crazy hype? I have decided not to review it because of the overwhelming number of reviews in my dash (all excellent ones o'course). My priority right now is the acquire the book asap, even though I am currently super broke. Also my mother, who I saw the movie with, does not approve of all the killing in it and thinks that I am crazy for wanting to read it. So glad I never saw Fight Club with her. My excellent best friend has suggested that I should sell her Twilight books online and buy The Hunger Games with the money. So proud of her :D

2) Photos- I did a poll on him, but I forgot to talk about how freaking amazing Daniel Radcliffe looks à la Allen Ginsberg on the set of Kill Your Darlings! Tumblr has exploded with fangirls crying over his poofy hair and perfect face and stuff. Also another Emma Watson has donned on some extensions for her role in Sofia Coppola's Bling Ring. Apparently she's not the lead, but she has some dance in it with a gun while being scantily dressed (so says Tumblr). Then there are photos of Hugh Jackman as Jean Valijean from the set of Les Miserables. It looks pretty intense, and if Tom Hooper makes this film properly, I may start to stop hating him a little bit for stealing that Oscar from David Fincher. And I might finally read the book. Lastly, there are photos from the set of To Rome With Love. Jesse Eisenberg and Ellen Page look adorable, but I liked the previous two names of the project, i.e., Bop Decameron and Nero Fiddled so much better.

3) Trailers- good week. It started with the awesome full trailer of Prometheus. I still don't get it completely, but it looks pretty darn amazing. It will definitely be a visual treat, if not anything else. Then another Charlize Theron flick, Snow White and the Huntsman has its official trailer out. This too looks spectacular, and I want a Queen Ravenna poster for my room. Then Abraham Lincolm: Vampire Hunter has another trailer out which gives us a little bit more insight into the film. I like the OTT aspect of this film and I think it will definitely be fun. Robert Pattinson is getting ready to totally shirk off his sparkly girl-toy image with Cosmopolis. The teaser looks completely insane. I don't know how much I will like the film, but I am pretty excited to see what Pattinson is going to do with such an extreme role. The almost opposite of him is Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan who is going to be seen in the Stephenie Meyers's "non-Twilight" book's adapatation, The Host. Why is she doing this? Also, what a terrible teaser.

4) Speaking of trailers, they showed the trailer of Street Dance 2 before The Hunger Games. It actually says it is "THE BIGGEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR". I mean do they really think that? I am all for ambition, but that is sort of extremely ridiculous. Also there was the trailer of the water Transformers movie, Battleship, which I had totally ignored. Why does it have Rihanna? Why does it have Alexander Skarsgård? And why is Liam Neeson in it?! What madness!!

5) New Doctor Who companion! Jenna-Louise Coleman. She seems sweet, but I desperately wanted a male companion for Matt Smith's Doctor. But according to head-writer and total troll Steven Moffat, she will meet him in the most surprising of ways, in the Christmas episode of this year. And the episode before that it the goodbye to Amy and Rory Pond, played by Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. I cannot imagine Matt without Karen! How awful :'( This episode has the dreaded Weeping Angels returning, and "not everyone gets out alive this time". I really hope Moffat doesn't kill off the Ponds. That will be awful and I will cry buckets of tears. Also there is Doctor Who convention going on in Cardiff right now, and I am sitting in my room in a whole another continent. FML! (Sorry- had to vent).

6) Finally, did anyone notice how Peeta threw bread to Katniss in The Hunger Games? Too funny.
I regret nothing.

Byees.

Thoughts

I have so many thoughts, I know I will forget some. But moving on:

1) WTF of the Week- Did people know this? Saoirse Ronan will be starring as lead in Stephenie Meyer's The Host, AKA Non-Twilight book somewhat. What? Why? I mean I was depressed when I found out that Max Irons, who is Jeremy Irons's son, will be there as he will be subjected to all the madness like Robert Pattinson and never be taken seriously. But Saoirse- how can she do this?! She has worked with Joe Wright and Peter Jackson and has an Oscar nomination...she stands to lose all the respect she has gained over the years. I mean all publicity cannot be good publicity when it comes to adaptations of Stephenie Meyer's books! Look at Kristen Stewart...I think she's a good actress (not as good as Saoirse, but still) and people are just sick of her. Meyer is like a curse to all that could have been more brilliant.

2) Harry Potter-director David Yates is going to make a Doctor Who movie. Without Steven Moffat and Matt Smith. Again, why?! I sort of understand if he wants a new Doctor, but I just love Matt Smith's portrayal and look of the Doctor. There is something so poetic and sad about a 900+ year old man who looks so young. And Smith is just so naturally funny and proper and brilliant. But not more than Moffat. Moffat is my new bonafide genius, and I love the way he writes. What is Yates to do without him? I do want to see it, but I don't want to lose this new found-love of the beloved and geeky series. Also, I don't really want Smith to get into the main Hollywood industry, where he might be made to star in crappy stuff. His look is so unique, he should stick with the British industry, or do plays and stuff.

3) J. Edgar sucks it seems... I think only Roger Ebert liked it. But then again, he is a very old man, no matter how hip he usually is. Poor Leo, though I still think the AMPAs will shower him with love and affection. I was going to watch Moneyball this week, but couldn't due to random problems. In the year thus far, I don't think I have seen a truly brilliant performance by an actor. Um, I liked Ryan Gosling in Drive, Owen Wilson in Midnight in Paris and Joel Courtney in Super 8- none of which will, most probably, get any Oscar love. Supporting actor-wise, Brad Pitt and Hunter McCracken (he's more of a lead, but I don't know) in Tree of Life were good, as was Albert Brooks in Drive.  Kirsten Dunst is a clear shot for Best Actress nomination for her role in Melancholia, and maybe Viola Davis for The Help. Speaking of which, why is The Help getting so much Oscar buzz? I do not understand. It was not that good. I really liked Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids, but that also seems very improbable for a Supporting actress. Finally, there is always Andy Serkis for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but that seems too avant-garde for the AMPAs to nominate him for anything. I don't remember what else I have seen.

4) Trailer...so many trailers!!!!!! Okay so first, The Iron Lady, in which Meryl Streep plays Margaret Thatcher. It does not do much for me, this trailer. I love Meryl, forever and always, but I just have such little interest in this film. All I like are her Tardis-blue clothes and the pearls. The first proper trailer to The Hunger Games has come out. This is the next big franchise after Harry Potter (Twilight is bull crap and I do not consider it as anything, except crap). I love Jennifer Lawrence in the trailer, and the whole mood has been set for what seems to be an excellent film. Also, it is directed by Gary Ross, who made my beloved Pleasantville, so yes, I am quite excited for this. Pixar's Brave has a trailer out. I don't know about this trailer. It didn't fill me up with bubbling excitement the way I expected it to, but I cannot get over how brilliant Princess Merida looks. She's voiced by my Boardwalk Empire-darling, Kelly McDonald, and I like the Dreamworks-esque look, though as this is Pixar, it will have something much more heart-warming in store for us. I will overlook the trailer and wait anxiously for the film. Mirror Mirror, which is the mad, colourful and slightly terrible alternative to last week's Snow White and the Huntsman, has released a trailer. I hate it, but it seems like fun. And Evil Queen, Julia Roberts this time, is still the best part. Well almost as Armie Hammer as the prince is one great piece of inspired casting. Finally, Titanic 3D has a trailer out to the same film as the one released 14 years back. It got James Cameron his Oscar and the first couple of billions, even though he thinks blue people from Pandora got him more acclaim. Also, that song. I don't know what my emotions are telling me about this film.

5) I absolutely adore them, but it's just not fair how gorgeous the Fanning sisters are. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
This just makes me think about all the inequality and injustice in the world.

I'm still furious. And bye.
