Those *are* really important scenes.

Haha I will check out the 1937 one for sure and I guess avoid the Streisand one like plague :PNikhathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10379713171889712078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9148220042850402796.post-36329440474162059182015-01-18T01:34:35.059+05:302015-01-18T01:34:35.059+05:30Judy Garland IS perfect. Everything really clicks in this movie, though it's a shame in its original run theatres didn't want to run it at the three hour running time. Sadly, it was edited down and scenes where the production stills are were destroyed. Still what's left is quite spectacular. :)Katyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00287429151542133314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9148220042850402796.post-28824838452357030382014-12-31T08:11:20.923+05:302014-12-31T08:11:20.923+05:30Glad you liked the film. It is a special picture and while I agree towards the end of the photos over the soundtrack it does start to become slightly off putting they add so much to the early narrative of the film. I've seen both versions and the photos fill in so much of the backstory of Esther's struggle, without them it seems she goes from discovery to stardom without a bump. Another thing about the restoration is that it includes two scenes that it seems incredible were cut from the original version, the proposal scene in the recording studio and the Lose Your Long Face number that bookends her dressing room breakdown. Judy was enormously upset at their removal and it was one of the factors in the dissolution of a contract she had signed with Warners for two other pictures that were to follow Star.

The first A Star is Born is very good, Fredric March is especially fine as Norman Maine, and worth checking out as is the picture that was the genus for all three versions, What Price Hollywood?, with Constance Bennett. The Streisand remake however stinks, and I'm a huge fan of hers but the film is bad, bad, bad.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9148220042850402796.post-19043116719467025202014-12-29T19:06:02.525+05:302014-12-29T19:06:02.525+05:30So glad you liked this film! There are a number of good uploads of the film on YouTube, if you're interested in seeing it.Aditya Bnoreply@blogger.com
